The Dissertation Process: It has been over a month!

This is a series on my blog about my personal dissertation process. It features some tips & tricks that I hope to learn along the way & pass on to other final year students. I am currently writing my dissertation throughout this academic year (2013/14) & aim to document this experience in real time, citing both the good and bad times, the highs and lows and making it easier for fellow dissertation writers to see that they are not the only ones panicking when it comes to this mammoth piece of writing.

So yes, my last update was the 19th of December and ideally right now I would be telling you that I am really far through my dissertation because I spend all Christmas researching and writing, BUT I said I would be honest with this process; so what have I actually done?

Today I am meant to hand in my Methodology ‘the time plan of when I plan on conducting all my interviews  etc’ and have already completed my rational, literature review & third chapter.

  • Well, I have only just written my rational and I am still missing a lot of references.
  • I have no concrete idea of when I shall be doing all my interviews or who with.
  • & no I am still no where near finishing my literature review.

The thing is Christmas break was so relaxing and I was with family and friends, don’t get me wrong dissertation did cross my mind but then other things were more interesting and fun, & now I am in a very similar position to where I was back on the 19th of December.

But things need to change, the only person who I am screwing over is myself and I don’t want that! So after I finish my other assignment this weekend I am setting a full on time plan that I plan to stick by so that I am no longer trailing behind at the end of the group!

You can catch up on my Dissertation process so far & if anyone has any advice or wants to share their story then please let me know in the comments or via twitter.

You also have until this Sunday, 2 DAYS, to vote of IDS in the National Blog Awards, every vote helps!!
  • It’s great to hear that I’m not the only one out there, who’s a bit back of the group when it comes to assignments.
I hope that you’ll get through this and that you can keep up with a future schedule of your time 🙂
Remember that you can always say “no” to friends at times. They do understand 🙂

  • Thanks Christina, I think there are a lot of us who work at a slower pace that others for assignments. It is nice to know that there are others out there!

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan with the new schedule & that is true, friends will understand!

  • Thanks for continuing to support the Student Link-Up! I’m in my second year and at the stage of having to choose a topic to turn into a thesis. Reading your dissertation posts are seriously helpful. Good luck with it all! It’s horrible how quickly time is going – hope you find the motivation to get back into it now the holidays are definitely over 🙂 xx

  • Thanks 🙂 I really like the Student Link-Up idea & have found some really great posts and blogs whilst taking part, so win-win for everyone 🙂

Good Luck with picking your topic! *But remember do not worry if it changes in the future, thats perfectly normal! & it is very crazy just how quickly time is going – thats why an extra day on the weekend would be perfect!
